Bright Sight: A team of AI agents for ESG compliance and sustainability strategy for companies

Can AI be the solution? Can technology help companies navigate complex issues, prove compliance, and define strategic responses?

Artificial intelligence today seems smarter than ever, but not all problems — especially those that are complex or require access to numerous information sources — can be solved by simply writing a good prompt in ChatGPT. Would a more powerful AI solve the issue? The answer is yes, but not in the sense of needing a more powerful AI — rather, it calls for a different type of AI.

Indeed, the answer isn’t simply ChatGPT. To tackle such challenging problems, we need an intelligent approach that breaks down the problem into manageable pieces.

In this context, we initiated the Bright Sight research project, aiming to go beyond the capabilities of current technologies. We created an ecosystem of specialized AIs capable of collaborating as a true team, providing companies with in-depth analyses and feedback on regulatory compliance and corporate strategies.

The core of Bright Sight is a system of AI agents: goal-oriented systems designed to interact autonomously with the world, capable of making decisions, executing actions, and achieving objectives based on predefined or continuously evolving tasks.

Within Bright Sight, each agent specializes in a specific area and plays a defined role: regulatory compliance, analysis of ESG regulations and consistency of reports, business strategy. Together, they collaborate as a team to translate inconsistent data and complex regulations into concrete, actionable recommendations.

• Report Miner Agent: An ESG specialist that examines sustainability reports to ensure consistency and cohesion of initiatives over time.
• Regulation Extraction Agent: A legal expert who studies European regulations and translates this information into accessible language.
• Rule Checker Agent: A compliance expert who compares corporate initiatives against the latest regulations to verify compliance.
• Strategist Agent: Oversees the entire strategy to ensure the other team members collaborate effectively. At the end of the process, it synthesizes the information into a detailed, tailored report to meet the company’s needs. This approach allows the company not only to ensure regulatory compliance but also to suggest strategic actions that can be immediately implemented. The report includes a list of pain points to address, strengths to enhance, and potential new opportunities for the company.

These AI agents work in synergy, like a real team, to deliver a clear and structured output designed to guide companies on their ESG journey. Each regulatory group — E (Environment), S (Social), and G (Governance) — is analyzed to highlight:

• Strengths: What the company is already managing effectively, both internally and in external communication.
• Opportunities: Areas for improvement identified by comparing existing and historical sustainability reports against current regulations.
• Pain points: Aspects that still need development or require further work to align with expected standards.

Each analysis results in clear and actionable recommendations, born from the collaboration of our specialized agents, capable of transforming complex data into strategic actions.

While traditional or non-customized AI solutions (such as those that follow the same sequence of actions on ChatGPT) provide generic responses or perform simple tasks, Bright Sight goes beyond. What makes Bright Sight unique is, in particular:

• Real-Time regulatory analysis: Bright Sight doesn’t just gather information from European regulations but takes these complex texts and transforms them into clear, applicable guidelines — something companies can truly use. The result? Organizations stay updated, aligned with the latest directives, without needing to decipher convoluted language.
• Managing operational complexity: Bright Sight functions as a network of interconnected AI agents capable of autonomously coordinating and precisely managing intricate, interrelated tasks. This capability allows it to handle ambitious challenges, providing crucial support to help companies maintain focus on long-term strategies with significant objectives.
• Our strategic thinking process: Bright Sight integrates MAIZE’s strategic thinking process, encoded within the system, allowing it to build a holistic vision, generate deep insights, and support companies toward conscious planning, just as we would.

Bright Sight empowers companies by making strategic information—which was previously difficult to extract quickly—accessible and actionable, supporting rapid and informed decision-making. By analyzing both their own sustainability reports and those of competitors, the system helps companies position themselves in a complex, constantly evolving environment, maintain strategic consistency over time, and turn complexity into an opportunity for competitive advantage.

Bright Sight is designed for the ESG world but is adaptable to any sector requiring the management of complex, interdependent tasks—including GDPR compliance analysis, contract management, and D&I checks and monitoring in call centers.
